12 School Lunches From Around The World

In America, we have become accustomed to what the typical school lunch looks like.  But in other countries, kids are served fare that's similar in some ways and strikingly different in other ways.  This curiosity led me on a search to find some of the most interesting school lunches served around the world:

 

1. Czech Republic

Semolina and vegetable soup with egg, beef with garlic, potato dumplings with chickpea, spinach or pork with leek, red lentils (it isn’t on the picture), an orange, and tea.

 

2. Japan

Fried fish, tomatoes, yummy dried seaweed, miso soup, steamed rice (inside the metal container), and milk.

 

3. Brazil

Green salad, rice, manioc (commonly referred to as Cassava - type of starch) crumbles, cooked meat in barbecue sauce, vanilla and brazilian nuts in cream, and strawberry juice.

 

4. Shanghai German School

Sausage, french fries, shredded carrots, roll, and a slice of cake.

 

5. Chennia, South India

Rice, sweet-kesari (popular Indian dessert using the spice "saffron"), sambar (lentil based vegetable stew), snake gourd veggie, curd, and buttermilk.

 

6. Israel

Falafels (deep-fried chickpeas and fava beans), yogurt and cucumber sauce, with green leaves and onion.

 

7. South Korea

Pickled sesame leaves, kimchi (fermented cabbage), doenjang (soybean paste) stew, rice, and grapes.  The metal tray is a nice touch!

 

8. Ukraine

Soup, spiral pasta, pickle, bread, sliced bologna.

 

9. France

Chicken nuggets, broccoli, pasta salad, baguette, water, and a mystery dessert.  Does anyone know what it is?
